This past Friday BF Goodrich invited me down to the Port of Los Angeles to check out the paddocks for the final Red Bull Global Rallycross race. The plan was to get the lay of the land on Friday, take advantage of a special opportunity, and then come back on Sunday to watch the battle for the championship.

Unfortunately for me, my body wasn’t on the same page as my mind and weeks of travel caught up to me all at once. Instead of running around the paddock taking photos and watching the action from the VIP suite, I was at home on the couch.

Still, it was great to see Brian Deegan snag his first win since joining Chip Ganassi racing, certainly felt like he was dialed in when I rode around the course with him on Friday. Yes, like I said, special opportunity, thanks again BF Goodrich!

By the look on my face you may think I wasn’t impressed, but that’s not the case. I was just trying to pay attention to all the inputs he was making and how he chose his line. You know since I’m planning to get into GRC myself someday...

The other story line of the weekend was of course Scott Speed battling Tanner Foust for the driver’s championship. Earlier in the week I had ridden along with Speed in a GTI while he chased a Golf R driven by Foust. Unofficial mobile phone timing had Speed faster than Foust around Streets Of Willow, which turned out to be prophetic.

Speed took a semi-final win to cut Foust’s six point lead to four, and when all was said and done, Speed came out ahead by six points, finishing 2nd in the final while Foust finished 4th. Going to be fun to watch these guys keep pushing each other as GRC continues to grow, because the more eyes on a rivalry, the more heated it seems become.
